Team boss Mike Krack has been vocal about Vettel’s future amid rumors surrounding his retirement. However, he stated they are in no rush to discuss whether the four-time world champion will stay beyond the 2022 season.

He said, “We were always clear that if he wants to continue, we would like him to stay for long, yes. We are talking. We have a very, very good relationship, and it is not that we have to set each other deadlines.”

“Obviously at one point, if we drag that too long, we will also be running into trouble, and he’s aware of that. But they are very trustworthy discussions that we are having. From that point of view, it’s all good.”

Vettel did not take part in the first two races because of COVID-19. Moreover, AMR-22 has not shown potential until the upgrades in Barcelona. Following this, the German finished P10 in Monaco and followed it with a P6 in Azerbaijan. He will look to build on these performances as the season progresses.

Can Aston Martin’s new upgrades make Sebastian Vettel stay?

The Spanish GP seems to be the turning point for Sebastian Vettel and Co. Although they are yet to match the likes of McLaren and Alpine, the car is competing with Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri. Moreover, they are bringing a new upgrade to Silverstone with a hope of further improving their pace.

Speaking on the upgrades lined up, Krack added, “For us, we have always said that we want to improve the car, and I think Barcelona was the first step. I would like to show him another step, and then we can talk, maybe then I can, his desire to do it is a bit better.”

The British GP could be another step in the right direction for Aston Martin. They will hope to convince Vettel to extend his contract with just over 10 races remaining.
