Mercedes’ domination in the turbo-hybrid era was nothing short of incredible. Winning championship after championship and gathering every title on offer is a feat unheard of. Of course, they are one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 history as they produce some fast, powerful race cars and are known for their incredible drivers, like Lewis Hamilton.

The 2022 season, however, has been a struggle so far for the Brackley-based team. As Formula 1 moves to its newest venue in Miami, Ferrari and Red Bull are the favorites to win. However, the Silver Arrows will take heart from the fact that they have conquered every race in a new venue since 2014.

Mercedes’ domination in new venues

Lewis Hamilton – Nico Rosberg was the combination that kick-started Mercedes’ domination. As Sochi hosted its first race ever in 2014, the duo were at it from the word go again. Hamilton took the honors while Rosberg came home to complete a 1-2.

On to the Baku 2016, it was Nico Rosberg’s turn to come out on top. The German won a crucial race on his way to win the 2016 world championship. The 2020 season saw the Tuscan Grand Prix and a race in Portimao, Portugal, introduced on the calendar. And it was a similar story once again. Hamilton won both the races while his new partner in crime, Valtteri Bottas, finishing behind him.

Meanwhile, 2021 witnessed two stunning races in the Gulf. The Qatar Grand Prix was an important race for Hamilton, as Max Verstappen was 14 points ahead of him. And the Brit delivered in style as he secured P1 and reduced the gap. The Saudi Arabian GP followed Qatar as the race for the championship intensified.

In a much interrupted race involving incidents between the title contenders, Hamilton once again came out on top, while Bottas secured P3. As a result, Mercedes went a step closer in its quest to achieve the championship.
