It’s been seven years since Lance Stroll made his debut in the premier class driving for Williams. The young Canadian made his debut aged 19 as he became the first Canadian to race since 1997 after Jacques Villeneuve. We were all aware Lance Stroll had big shoes to fill as a Canadian representative. However, no one expected the Canadian to struggle to make a mark for seven years. In Lance’s defense, he never really drove a competitive enough car to secure podiums, wins or even consistently finish in points. Although that scenario has changed with the AMR23. Despite that, his subpar form has continued which might finally force his father Lawrence Stroll to cast him out.
For many years there is a negative general opinion surrounding Lance Stroll. Many, fans and experts alike, believe Lance is still part of the circus because of his father. Lawrence Stroll took over Racing Point in 2019 and his son has had a permanent seat in the team since. Many, perhaps better, drivers have come and gone but Lance has never had to worry about his seat. But for how long?

With the prowess of AMR23 and Fernando Alonso‘s inclusion in the team, the young Canadian’s mediocrity has been exposed further. In fact, apart from the season opener in Bahrain and in Australia the Canadian has failed to impress in every single race.
Despite the prowess of the 2023 Aston Martin challenger, Stroll has not even had a sniff of the podiums, of which he only has three in his career so far. 134 races, 3 podiums, zero wins, and measly 241 points. These are the stats of a driver who wouldn’t have survived long enough if it wasn’t for his father.
However, this scenario might change soon with Lawrence Stroll finally caving to the general demand. As per reports, thanks to Honda’s partnership with Aston Martin from 2026 onwards, the British team might finally rid themselves of Lance Stroll and make Alex Palou drive for them.
Palou is an IndyCar champion and recently ditched McLaren and many speculate that’s to fulfill his F1 dream with Aston Martin. Palou will get his wish and Lawrence Stroll will get a good excuse.
It is better late than never but after seven long below-par seasons, a scenario which has continued in 2023 as well, Lance Stroll may need to go. This is the opinion of an F1 expert as well.

The goal for Lawrence Stroll has always been clear and so far, he is pushing his team in that direction. However, even if Aston Martin wins the driver’s championship, with Lance Stroll occupying the second seat, there is no way the British team will win the constructors championship. So if your own son is holding you back from achieving the ultimate goal, difficult decisions need to be made. This is what David ‘Crofty’ Croft is urging Lawrence Stroll do to as well.
David Croft said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast, “I think he’s lost his way a little bit. He’s lost his Mojo and whatever has happened, Lance just doesn’t seem to be as motivated as he was at the start of the season and I do wonder if we are approaching a time when it’s the one driver on the grid that’s guaranteed a job as long as your dad is there. He then added “But I just have a little feeling that in a year and a half’s time, Lance Stroll will race his last race in Formula 1 and go off and do something else.”
