Why Toto Wolff Is Shrugging Off the Impact of Potentially Losing 2021 F1 Title to Red Bull

The Championship battle is all set to go down to the wire with just two races left in the season. Title rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are separated by just eight points. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is not too concerned about the potential defeat as it “would not be end of the world” for him.

Everyone in the F1 fraternity is sitting on the edge of their seat to witness this close finish. This is arguably one of the best seasons since 2016 when Nico Rosberg clinched the title with a slender lead of 5-points over teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The championship loss might cost Toto Wolff some sleepless nights

Mercedes have been on a dominant run in F1, winning the last seven double titles. Much used to a finish on the top, this year has been a bitter-sweet experience for the Brackley team. “If I had been told before the season that the decision would be made in Saudi Arabia or at the season finale, I would have taken it,” said Wolff, as reported by Motorsport.

The Austrian Manager has taken the high route about the potential loss in the upcoming races. Recently, Wolff said that the defeat might cost him a few sleepless nights but he will get over it. “it might cost us a sleepless night or two. That would be annoying, but we can cope with it, it’s not the end of the world”.

The triple-header, which concluded last weekend must have given Mercedes the much-needed confidence.

The intense war of words over the last two weekends

RedBull have been explicitly critical of Mercedes and it was reciprocated by the Brackley team. However, it has to be settled on the track, eventually. Both the teams would be looking forward to ending this fight at the top. “It’s maximum attack for the last two rounds,” said Wolff after the Qatar Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Horner is looking forward to ending the seven-year drought for the Milton Keynes team. “We are now just five points behind in the constructors’ championship and eight points in front in the drivers’ championship, so there are two very big races to come and it’s all to play for.”
