It’s that time of the year when Formula One’s season is just picking up some momentum. Although Max Verstappen is dominating the tracks again, 48 clear of the second-placed Charles Leclerc, the next race may turn the tables for the native racer. But more importantly, the next stop is one of the most attractive destinations for motorsport, Monte Carlo. It is a race considered one-sided, yet draws the most elite crowd worldwide. But with many other belters like Monza and Silverstone, why does Circuit De Monaco host the crown jewel of all motorsport races, the Monaco Grand Prix?

Monaco GP commenced with Formula One in 1950. But the heritage of the place with its unique track makes it one of the premier races in motorsport. Known to be part of the Triple Crown together with the Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans, Monaco GP poses the toughest challenge for racers. The qualifying rounds possibly determine the final positions.

Meanwhile, even the best drivers in the business cherish winning the event as testified by former World Champion Mario Andretti. He was reported saying, “No question, in Formula 1, outside of winning your home Grand Prix, I’d say Monaco is the other really precious, precious event to put on your resume.” But what makes the drivers go gaga over it?

Monaco GP: A challenge steeped in legend and peril

Monaco is the second smallest country in the world, which can only afford its civilian road as a track. The 2.07-mile lap is much narrower than F1 tracks and has 19 thrilling turns, including a tricky hairpin. But the most iconic one is the 4th turn, which is the Casino Square alongside the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo, which attracts a few of the wealthiest people in the world.

Additionally, the race in previous years saw some bizarre moments with the cars of Alberto Ascari and Paul Hawkins ending up in the Mediterranean Sea. Thus, overtaking or slight complacency in observing turns could be punished severely. However, some legends conquered it multiple times. Ayrton Senna dominated Circuit De Monaco, winning a staggering six times, and on five occasions from 1989 to 1993.

On the other hand, Monaco is also considered a unique place to watch the event, with not much space to accommodate spectators’ stands. Many fans position a yacht to view the race from the harbor, making it one of the most exquisite experiences ever. But what does this year have in store for us?

Which celebrities are expected to attend the famous race?

The previous year saw quite a few superstars at the event. Hollywood actors Tom Holland, Michael Douglas, and Orlando Bloom were present along with soccer ace Neymar. But this year, reports suggest NFL icon Travis Kelce and popstar Taylor Swift are expected to witness the Monaco GP live. His teammate at Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and his wife could join Kelce and Swift.

However, these are just a few reported names at Monaco on Sunday. Multiple celebrity A-listers are expected every year and get to be part of this luxurious journey. But with all the extravaganzas around the venue, can Leclerc steal 25 points from Verstappen? Let us know in the comments.
