The way Lewis Hamilton has been conducting himself in 2023 has really started to grow his fanbase and the general masses of the F1 fandom. The 7x champion has taken adversity on his chin and has dedicated himself to the cause of rising back to the very top of the grid. However, this isn’t a one-man job. Even though the Brit has on many occasions, singlehandedly executed the job, this time around he needs Mercedes to aid him.

No one can blame the 38-year-old for not extracting the utmost from a troubled W14 this season. In the middle part of this leg of the season, the Silver Arrows looked as though they had gotten their act together. But soon after their performance once again started to fade away. Today’s Belgian GP was yet another testament to this fact as Hamilton missed out on a podium finish and was almost half-a-minute adrift of Max Verstappen.

But true to his champion mentality, the Brit took it upon himself. After his engineer, Bono confessed, “I guess we didn’t have the car for this weekend but, well done.” Hamilton quickly responded with, Yeah, sorry lads. Yea, let’s keep pushing.”  What irked the LH Army was the fact that their hero had to lay himself on the line for Mercedes’ apparent incompetence.

The pace just wasn’t there for Hamilton to mount any sort of a realistic charge. That coupled with the fact that admittedly it was Mercedes’ job to provide him with comparable machinery, which they failed, fans rushed to Twitter to slam the Silver Arrows while lauding Hamilton’s humility.

One fan even commented, “Why is he apologizing?”

Let’s take a look at just a few of the fan reactions from this post-race exchange between Hamilton and Bono.

Seemingly, what really ticked off the fans was the fact that Mercedes really haven’t been anywhere in terms of pace. And the upgrades haven’t really worked that well, either. The damning stagnation that has creeped into the Brackley-based outfit has become a real cause for concern for the fans of the Brit and the team.
