As the Red Bull domination continues after a 4-week break, their drivers remain each other’s only competition. Tired of serving as the second fiddle to Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez has started to pose a serious threat. During all this, fans have often accused the Red Bull management of holding a bias against the Mexican driver. That feeling came back when Helmut Marko gave his reactions post-Azerbaijan GP.

Checo fans’ distrust of the Red Bull management arose when the team failed to reprimand Verstappen for refusing to follow team orders in Brazil last year. Later, the addition of Daniel Ricciardo as the third driver was seen as a threat to Perez’s position in the team. Now, Marko’s comments have added fuel to that fire.

We are 4 races into the season already and the Milton Keynes team’s drivers have won each of those races. The duo has equally shared the number of wins with Checo taking the latest top spot home. Verstappen finished behind his partner in Azerbaijan as the Mexican Minister of Defence once again showed his superior street circuit racing prowess.

Reacting to the results while speaking with ORF post-race, Marko said, He (Max) had to experiment with the set-up of his car until the end to get the best out of it, and only then could he follow Sergio’s pace.”

Compliments to Sergio, he was fast from the start and made no mistakes. An optimal race.”

The comments on Max adjusting the set-up of the car were seen as an excuse by many fans on the internet. Take a look at how fans on Twitter reacted to Marko’s comments.

One fan believed that Marko holds Max in higher regard than Perez. That perhaps is the reason why he isn’t as enthused as he should be after a race win.
