In a global survey conducted recently, Max Verstappen was voted as the most popular driver in Formula 1. He beat the likes of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, and other former champions like Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso.

The Red Bull driver’s popularity skyrocketed after the race in Abu Dhabi. At just 24-years of age, Verstappen became an F1 world champion, and he did it under quite dramatic circumstances.

Even those who weren’t acquainted with the sport came to know of the Dutch driver’s name and his exploits. And naturally, interest in his personal life also went up, particularly about his dating life.

For the better part of his relatively short career, Verstappen was dating Dilara Sanlik, but they’re understood to have broken up in 2020.

Who is Dilara Sanlik, and why did she and Verstappen break up?

At the time of their relationship, Dilara Sanlik was reportedly a German student, studying in London. Sanlik was very close to Verstappen’s mother and his sister. But apart from that, very little is known about her, as she is a very private person.

She was regularly seen with Verstappen on and off the paddock, and she would often come to support him during the race weekends.

The couple called it quits for unknown reasons, as Verstappen revealed in 2020 ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix. In an interview with German TV station RTL, the Red Bull driver was asked about his relationship status, and his answer was that he was single.

As mentioned before, nothing is known from Sanlik’s side because she is a private person.

And again, F1 fans would immediately recognize that surname. This is because she is the daughter of the legendary former F1 driver, Nelson Piquet. The two of them have been spotted regularly on and off the track, with Piquet also present during the biggest moment of Verstappen’s career.

She supported Verstappen from the Red Bull garage along with his family in the championship-clinching Abu Dhabi GP.

Kelly Piquet was also present alongside Max Verstappen at the FIA Prize Giving ceremony, where Verstappen lifted the drivers/ championship trophy.

It seems that the two of them are immensely happy with each other, something that their fans are also in love with.
