Mercedes have been the most dominant force in F1 for the better part of the last decade. Their precision and desire to achieve their goals have seen them become successful time and again.
But somehow, there is an unnerving feeling that Mercedes might not run out victors very easily this season. Contributing to that, of course, are a host of various factors. But none more so than a very motivated rival team that looked to be challengers last season as well.
The winds of possible change, however, have never perturbed Mercedes, who always like to do their talking on the track.

But the question that we must all ask, though, is – will that be enough to retain their championship title in 2021?
Cost cap introduction could be among other factors that stop the Mercedes juggernaut
2021 will be a different season for quite a few reasons. First, the introduction of a cost cap whose main objective is to bring the teams closer will see restricted spending in performance and non-performance domains.

Considering Mercedes will need to make some cuts in their budget, the changes might also reflect in their upcoming W12 car. Add to that a newer set of tires’ compounds by Pirelli in 2021, and the pace advantage that the defending champions earlier had might not be there this time around.
Team principal Toto Wolff also recently spoke about the upcoming Mercedes car’s issues. With a change in the aerodynamics’ regulations, that could also have an influence on how the machinery eventually pans out.

Red Bull Racing will give the defending champions a certain run for their money
But most importantly, their biggest threat comes in the form of a highly energized Red Bull Racing team. They last won the title in 2013, and they will be desperate to get it back to their Milton Keynes base.

With the addition of Sergio Perez and a dedicated Honda wanting to leave on a high, Red Bull will ensure they bring their top-notch game to the table. Mercedes would be wary of that challenge, and they might have to change their strategy in the races now too.
