Mick’s Uncle, Ralf Schumacher, a former F1 driver had a few thoughts to share on the subject. According to the racer, Mick is here to stay. And that with few races still to go, there is no certainty if it would be Mick, who loses the seat. Ralf implies that Kevin Magnussen‘s odds of being on the losing end is just as much as Mick’s.
In an interview with Sky Deutschland, Ralf said, “Anything is possible, of course, especially if we look at the last few races. Who knows, Magnussen may not be so firmly in the seat anymore? If we look at the races since Silverstone, we have to conclude that Mick is the more stable and better of the two drivers.”
Furthermore, he explained, “He has also had some bad luck with wrong strategies. In the last race [Mexico], Mick was sometimes up to six-tenths faster than Magnussen.”
“Maybe, next year we will have two Germans on the Formula 1 grid,” he said, in conclusion.
Meanwhile, Haas man, Guenther Steiner, said that they weren’t a 100% sure.
Haas is yet to make its decision on Mick Schumacher’s seat
The decision regarding Mick’s seat at Haas been an unending debate the past few months in the F1 community. However, amidst the speculations, Guenther Steiner gave some insight on their progress.
He said, “We will get to a decision, hopefully soon. But nothing is decided 100% yet.” Explaining further, he said that there were a few things to be dealt with. once those get sorted out, the decision will be made.”
“It’s a job I need to do. When it’s done, it’s always nice to tick things off the list,” he concluded.
However, reports suggest that the chances of Kevin losing his seat are far less that of Schumacher’s. They pointed out that Kevin had a multi-year contract in the running with Steiner, unlike Mick. Aside from that, the current season has been a good one for Magnussen in comparison.
He holds six top ten finishes with 24 points, whilst, Mick only hold two top ten finishes with 12 points. Also, keeping in mind the big crashes, Mick has three on his record whilst Kevin has none.
