Susie Wolff is a regular face in the F1 paddock. Many know her as the wife of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, but there’s much more that adds to her gravitas and achievements. She was born on the 6th of December 1982 in Oban, Scotland. Her father, John Stoddart is a former bike racer and owned a motorcycle dealership in Oban. Susie followed that path later to become a successful name in Motorsports racing.

She took competitive karting at 8 and by the age of 18, was ranked 15th in the World Championships. In 1996, she was named the British Woman Kart Racing Driver of the year. In the later years, she competed in multiple Karting championships with tremendous success to back her into the next stage.

From karting, she stepped up into single-seaters, Formula Renault, and made the podium in her second season, where she finished 5th overall. Her initial success in Formula Renault and Formula 3 earned her a contract with Mercedes Benz. With them, she raced in the German Touring Car Championship for the next 7 years.

In 2012, the Williams F1 team signed Susie for their driver development program, where she worked alongside the legends of the sport. Her last appearance as a motorsports driver was at the 2015 race of champions event. She decided to bow out of this profession as a racing driver but works in different capacities even today.

Though she stopped racing competitively, that wasn’t the end of her links with the sport. Mercedes Benz selected her to be the brand ambassador for them in 2016, which was backed by her pedigree in racing and her intellect. Susie joined Venturi Racing in Formula E as Team Principal in 2018. Meanwhile, her husband has been holding the same position for Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team since 2013.

The couple tied knots in 2011 and recently celebrated their 10th anniversary with a getaway trip to Venice. In 2017, the British crown honored Wolff as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services in the respective field. She is an entrepreneur who actively invests in multiple start-ups, quite like her husband Toto Wolff.

For general trivia, Susie Wolff has competed against Lewis Hamilton from the age of 8, in go-karting, then in Formula Renault as well. The two share a great relationship even today, as both are associated with Mercedes. Wolff recently shared an emotional message in the support of Hamilton after the Abu Dhabi debacle.
