Apart from bringing in Logan Sargeant in place of Nicholas Latifi, the Williams F1 team managed to pull off one more important replacement as they brought in Mercedes‘s famed James Vowles as their team principal. The Grove-based team sacked Jost Capito and replaced him with the Silver Arrows engineer for the upcoming season. As Vowles has come forward to take the Williams opportunity, who will take his place back in Mercedes? Well, it’s none other than Rosie Wait. As Wait is all set to take her place, the upcoming battle between her and Red Bull’s Hannah Schmidt will be a treat to watch.
Vowles was an instrumental part of Mercedes’ journey to success in the last few years. The race engineer provided the much-needed impetus to the Silver Arrows over the course of their recent success. As he moved to a rival team, with Hamilton sharing his parting words, it is believed that Wait is all set to take his place on the team. Who is Rosie Wait? Well, in this article, we will go into detail about the mastermind behind multiple Lewis Hamilton wins.

Rosie Wait is Mercedes’ head of strategy. The woman was responsible for all strategies the team follows on its weekend outing. A very important role that she has been occupying since December 2018. Prior to that, she was the race strategy engineer. Wait joined the Silver Arrows from Williams in 2017 and spent one year and 11 months as a strategy engineer before moving on to the head of strategy position.
However, why is Rosie Wait important? When it comes to Formula 1, speed is seen as the main criterion for success. The faster the car is, the better it has the chance to win titles. Yes, it is true. However, one more primary criterion that plays a huge part is a team and driver’s success and it is very instrumental. It is a strategy. The race strategy for the weekend is very important when it comes to success and this important role was undertaken by none other than Wait.

Hugely successful with her tenure, Wait has been one of the primary forces behind the 2018, 2019, and 2020 titles for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. The lady with the all-important role to play in strategy has pulled her strings to make the idea talk. As she is about to take her next step in the sport, it is important to know how she made it this far.
Beginning of Rosie Wait
According to her LinkedIn profile, Rosie Wait completed her Master of Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2009. After completing her studies, she joined the McLaren F1 team as a vehicle dynamics officer. In this post, she spent three years and five months where she was a member of the vehicle modeling team. She was responsible for the aerodynamic aspects of the vehicle model, developing and deploying analysis tools.
Rosie Wait then moved up to a strategy engineer’s position in January 2012. There, she developed race simulation models and analysis tools and made strategic decisions live during qualifying and races. She worked with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button during her tenure as the strategist.
After spending three years in this role, Wait moved to the Simulation Development Engineer role at McLaren itself. There she almost worked a year till December 2016. Post this role, the Briton left McLaren to join Williams as their Performance Project Team Leader in January 2016. She worked in this role in Grove for one year and two months before making her ultimate move to the Mercedes AMG F1 team.
