All Formula One drivers have a voice in their ears during the race. These voices belong to their respective race engineers who routinely relay information or encouragement. One example is Mercedes’ Peter ‘Bono’ Bonnington, who is Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer. Obviously, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has his own race engineer named Gianpiero Lambiase.
While his name may sound Italian, Lambiase is actually of British nationality. However, he does have Italian citizenship to go along with his British citizenship. Turns out, he has been in the Formula One scene since 2005 with the Jordan team. He spent a decade in the organization, witnessing the outfit change hands several times.
He plays a critical role in the Dutchman’s performance since he is in charge of all pit-to-car communication. Evidently, has been doing a stellar job in his four years at Red Bull Racing being Verstappen’s race engineer.

Following the career of Red Bull race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase
The Jordan team evolved into Midland, Spyker and eventually into Force India. Finally, in 2015, Lambiase moved to the Red Bull team, succeeding a newly promoted Guillaume Rocquelin. ‘Rocky’ formed a fruitful partnership with Sebastian Vettel for a very long time, and Lambiase is hoping to do the same with Verstappen.
During his F1 tenure, he has worked with Vitantonio Liuzzi, Paul di Resta and Sergio Perez. It was only after he had worked with the Mexican that Lambiase finally snagged a top team.
In his new team, he worked as a race engineer for Daniil Kvyat until the Russian driver got demoted. From there, Lambiase formed a new partnership with the Verstappen.

The two gel pretty well, as Verstappen is not overly fond of verbose racing engineers. In addition to that, he prefers someone with whom he can be frank and someone who can be frank with him.
“I think we are both very straightforward. We’re very honest,” Verstappen said. “And we can say to each other when we do a bad job. I like that. And he’s also a guy who doesn’t talk too much. I don’t like someone who’s talking just to talk, giving me more messages – because for me, that is just not working. And he’s exactly the same, so he likes that as well.”
