Williams Racing’s 2024 ventures in the United States extend beyond the Formula 1 events in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas, as they also encompass the racing pursuits of Jamie Chadwick. Chadwick, a three-time W Series champion, is currently participating in her second season of the Indy NXT series, competing across various venues in the USA.

During a recent event at the renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jamie Chadwick made history by becoming the first female driver to secure a podium finish in Indy NXT since 2010. After her taking the podium at the Indy NXT, the world has been interested in knowing more about her. So here is everything we could dig out on the development driver for Williams.

Who is Jamie Chadwick?

Jamie Laura Chadwick was born to Michael and Jasmine Chadwick. Before she was found at the wheel of racing cars, her interests lay in hockey, and she was also considered for the England under-18 hockey team before transitioning to motorsports. However, in 2010, she started karting when she was 11, following her brother Oliver.

In the Ginetta Junior Championship 2013, she won a scholarship to compete, finishing tenth overall. Next year was much better for her, as she managed to improve to eighth overall with five podium finishes. Although Karting was going well for her, she knew that there was more in store for her. That’s why she entered the British GT Championship in 2015, competing in the GT4 class with Beechdean Motorsport, becoming the first female and youngest champion in British GT Championship history.

Over the span of her career, Chadwick broke many boundaries being a female motorsport athlete. She took to single-seaters in 2017, where she drove in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship. Next year, she tested herself at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with Aston Martin, finishing fifth in class.

However, 2018 and 2019 were when things really looked up for her. She participated in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000, where she became the first woman to win the MRF Challenge, securing six race victories. Throughout her career, her parents supported her and that has brought her to where she is today, as a development driver for Williams and a race car driver for Andretti Global in Indy NXT.

Who are Jamie Chadwick’s parents?

We already mentioned the names of her parents, but now it’s time to get to know them. Jamie Chadwick’s parents have had successful careers in finance and property/farming. Her Indian-born mother found success in the City, while her father transitioned into property and farming.

There isn’t much known about her parents besides their professional backgrounds; however, they are often spotted at races supporting their daughter. There is a popular image of her parents visiting her at a race where she won a trophy, and coincidentally, it was Father’s Day. The picture could be seen as a little tribute to her dad.

In a 2018 interview, she opened up about her family and said that they are proud of her for being in motorsport and she also has her brother’s support. Motorsport is not an easy career to take on and when it comes to finances, her parents must have helped her in her initial years. She caught people’s attention when she shared her opinion on Lewis Hamilton. Let’s take a look at what that’s all about.

Jamie Chadwick’s controversial opinion on Lewis Hamilton’s performance

Recently, Chadwick came to the limelight when she commented on Lewis Hamilton’s performance in the 2024 season. Chadwick is not convinced by Lewis Hamilton’s complaints about the W15. When it comes to driving for Mercedes, even George Russell has the same car but is delivering better results consistently.

She believes that Hamilton is “spinning” the narrative and that a team like Mercedes would make sure both drivers are getting the same car with differences in setups, according to personal preference. Her comments have gotten mixed reactions from fans, with many agreeing with what she said and others believing she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
