Formula 1 is at Monza, the temple of speed this weekend. The premium form of Motorsports is gearing itself for the 16th race of the 2022 season with the Italian GP. Even though the race is slated to go as usual, the grid listing will differ from that of Saturday’s qualification list.

As Ferrari is back in Italy, their home turf, Charles Leclerc has grabbed the pole with his teammate, Sainz in P3. However, the final grid standings will differ due to extensive grid penalties taken by multiple drivers this weekend.

Even though Verstappen and Perez have finished in P2 and P4 in qualifying, they’ll start from far behind, and so will Sainz and Hamilton. What is the final grid standing for the Italian Grand Prix after taking grid penalties and qualifying then?

The race starts with Charles Leclerc in P1 accompanied by George Russell in P2. The second row will have the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo in P3 and P4. Pierre Gasly takes his AlphaTauri to P5  alongside Fernando Alonso. Max Verstappen drops down to P7, making it a Dutch Double with Nyck de Vries in P8. Zhou Guanyu starts in P9 as Nicholas Latifi rounds off the top 10.

The Aston Martin duo of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll stake the fifth row on the grid.  In P13, Sergio Perez starts with Esteban Ocon in P14. Valtteri Bottas starts in P15 and  Kevin Magnussen sits in P16.The penultimate row features Mick Schumacher leading Ferrari man Carlos Sainz. Finally, Lewis Hamilton has Yuki Tsunoda will face the lights from the worst seats in the house- P19 and 20, respectively.

What are the grid penalties at the Italian GP?

Both the Red Bull drivers will take a grid penalty for taking new ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). New ICEs usually mean a five-place grid penalty if it’s one of the three permitted during the season. However, as Perez takes his fourth change, he faces a 10-place hit.

However, Verstappen will serve a five-place grid penalty since he already served the ten-place penalty in Belgian Grand Prix on August 28. A host of other drivers are on the list for taking in new parts in this Grand Prix, including Esteban Ocon with a five-place penalty.

Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton, AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda, and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz will start from the back of the grid after taking a full slate of new parts. The Haas duo of Schumacher and Magnussen take mammoth 15-place grid penalties, and so will Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas.

With the numbers being thrown everywhere, the jumbled mess of penalties settles down into a rather interesting final grid order. Monza is known to be a difficult track to overtake- so we might just be up for an exciting race in Italy.
