Jewelry! Underpants! Fake Water! And what not has happened this Miami GP weekend. Lewis Hamilton was especially not happy with the ban on his piercings.
The FIA, in a new rule, has stated how Jewelry can become an issue with safety. Using terms like “snagging,” they tried to define how these piercings can cause trouble.

Hamilton, who has worn these piercings for 16 years, was understandably shocked. The seven-time world champion in order to stand his ground, did not remove his nose stud for the Miami GP.

Formula 1 fraternity and Hamilton fans have reacted negatively to this rule. Many believe that this is controversially a targeted attack on the Briton. While the FIA has clarified that Jewelry can cause complications during accidents, it has not convinced fans. In fact, former rival Sebastian Vettel also supported Lewis‘s stand and believed that FIA has better things to acknowledge.

“Wedding rings are allowed,” Hamilton pointed out to support his narrative. Feeling that this is an unnecessary fuss, Hamilton further added, “When they told me about the jewelry, they were saying safety is everything,”
“Well, what’s happened the last 16 years? I’ve had jewelry on for 16 years, so was safety not an issue back then?”
Miami will be special for the British driver
Earlier threatening to skip the race, the Britisher finally reached a middle ground with the FIA. He got an exemption for two races and will not have to remove his nose stud till Monaco GP.

However, the 37-year-old will have to part ways with his earrings during the race. Though, he still sounded positive and added, “I got an exemption here, I will get an exemption for the rest of them.”
Despite this slight shake-up, things have looked up for Hamilton this weekend. With decent results in free practices 2 and a solid P6 in qualifying, the Briton has an exciting week to look forward to.
