Yes, you read it right. Charles Leclerc is Lord. Lord Perceval. The Lord who started his F1 dreams with Haas as their development driver and now he’s one of the most sought-after talents in the sport. And in today’s article, we are going to talk about the Lord’s family heritage and, most importantly, how did he get the name of Lord Perceval?

Charles Leclerc or Charles Marc Hervé Perceval Leclerc is a Monegasque motorsport driver, who drives for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1. A fan favorite among the Tifosi, Leclerc even has a nickname much like many other popular drivers in the grid. Compared to the former Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen the Iceman, Daniel Ricciardo the Honey Badger, and Sebastian Vettel Inspector Seb, the 25-year-old driver from Monaco also has a nickname.

Perceval, yes, Perceval, along with the Lord, is the nickname of the Monegasque. Although it may sound interesting, it has a lot more interesting reasons behind it. As it goes, one day Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz played an interesting game called two truths and a lie.

How did Lord Perceval come into existence?

While playing the game, Leclerc unveiled his full name, much to the surprise of Sainz and the fans as a whole. As he began to utter his full name, he did it with caution. Leclerc told, “My one is Charles Marc,” and then he cautioned everyone, “To be honest it’s not that much more easier.”

The Monegasque then went on, “Charles Marc Herve Perceval Leclerc.” This fascinated Carlos Sainz and he went on to ask, “Perceval?” with surprise. He soon said that the name his teammate has is a kind of “Lord-esque” and went on with, “Lord-esque, so you’re Lord Perceval.

Soon after this, both began to laugh as Sainz said that he liked the name. And hence began the rule of Lord Perceval in the heart of his fans. Although Leclerc didn’t believe that this name would be popular, unfortunately for him, it did. The name echoed once again during Ferrari’s recent 2023 challenger launch.

Ferrari unveiled their 2023 livery in front of a live audience in Maranello. As the jam-packed launch got over, Leclerc and Sainz were allowed to drive the brand-new SF-23. To this, Leclerc was the first driver to take the bright red car for a drive.

In a video uploaded by Sky Sports, Sainz asked Leclerc if he liked the car. But the Spanish driver called out his nickname and asked in style. Sainz asked, “Lord Perceval, How is the car? Do you like it?” To reply to this, Charles Leclerc affirmed that he liked the car, enjoyed the ride, and asked if he can do one more lap.

Charles Leclerc’s family heritage

Although many would argue that Charles Leclerc is from the posh city of Monte Carlo, so he and his family are from a well-off background. However, this is not true. Despite being born in Monaco, the 25-year-old comes from a humble background, unlike many drivers these days.

Leclerc might be from a modest family, but apart from him, his family has a history of having two other racers. Lord Perceval is the second son of the three sons of Pascale and Herve Leclerc. Leclerc’s late father, Herve Leclerc, was also a racer who raced in Formula 3 back in the 1980s and 1990s. The former Alfa Romeo driver’s father passed away after a long illness at the age of 54, just four days before Leclerc’s Baku race in F2.

Charles Leclerc has two brothers, namely Lorenzo and Arthur Leclerc. Lorenzo and Arthur Leclerc are the older and younger brothers of the Ferrari driver, respectively. While his older brother is a businessman, his younger brother is a fellow member of the Ferrari driver academy.
