2023 is going to see a couple of new faces on the grid. But none have been more hyped or deserving than Nyck de Vries. The 27-year-old Formula E World Champion will grace the biggest stage in motorsport next year and hope to prove his mettle. That being said, who exactly is Nyck de Vries?

De Vries stormed into the eyes of Formula 1 fans in last year’s Italian Grand Prix. He’d been a paddock regular as Mercedes‘ reserve driver, but when Alex Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis, the young gun was strapped into the FW44. What’s more? He finished 9th and into the points on his Formula 1 debut! This made him an instant hot property in the F1 paddock.

It wasn’t long before rumors started to circulate that he’d be the one to replace the outgoing Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri. And soon, he was lapped up by the Faenza-based squad to drive alongside Yuki Tsunoda for 2023 and beyond.

Nyck de Vries was born on the 6th of February, 1995 in Sneek, Netherlands. Born to Dutch parents, Hendrik Jan de Vries, a prominent car dealer, and Naomi Hesseling, de Vries rose up the ranks of the motoring world with McLaren’s young driver program. Naturally, in 2023, he will race under the Dutch flag with the number ’21’ as his personal racing number.

De Vries lives in the principality of Monaco, which is not unusual for F1 drivers and hopefuls. Apart from racing, though, the Dutch driver enjoys his downtime by indulging in his hobbies of playing the piano, a few rounds of tennis, and skiing.

Nyck de Vries’ entry into Formula 1 in 2023 will mean that there will be two Dutch drivers on the grid next year. While one of them has already etched his name into the annals of F1 history as one of the most dominant drivers ever, de Vries would hope to emulate his countryman at the very team Verstappen also started his F1 career at.
