The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is an annual celebration of the best British and international contributions to film and is often called the British equivalent of the American Academy Awards, aka the Oscars. So, what is Geri Halliwell, a Spice Girl and the wife of Red Bull boss Christian Horner, doing in the headlines alongside BAFTA? Well, the fans have been asking the same thing about her appearance at the award show.

Geri reached the awards with Christian in a white dress, which many fans joked was a wedding dress. The Spice Girl was subsequently interviewed by Alison Hammond as part of the ceremony’s backstage broadcast for BBC One, which took place as the show was taking place. Geri chatted with Hammond during this extensive piece, expressing her enjoyment of the evening and her opinions on the winners so far. And this was the point where the trolling of the singer started.

Few of the angered fans blamed Geri Halliwell’s appearance for the show skipping on giving a tribute to British acting legend Bernard Cribbins, who died in July 2022, with one saying, “If they’ve got time to interview Geri Halliwell, and for a long list of A list celebs to refuse to tell Alison Hammond which party they were attending afterwards, they can do Bernard.”
