The F1 race at Austin, Texas ended with Max Verstappen coming out as the winner. In the race, where Red Bull Racing picked up the constructors’ championship, Alpine’s Fernando Alonso put up a massive fight to be a contender for the driver of the day. Fans applauded the valiant efforts put up by the Alpine veteran on social media.

Alonso finished the race in P7 after a brilliant fight with Norris, who fended off the Spanish driver to finish P6. The Briton had quite a lot to say about the Spaniard after the race. He shared, “Especially with the pressure of you know to get past Fernando with only a few laps to go and you wanted to time everything perfectly and get past”

When I did, so, it all went very well. It was fun, especially to race Fernando last few laps like, it was tough. It was very tough, he’s a difficult competitor. He’s the last guy I would want to be up against in the final few laps, but yeah, he makes it a lot of fun,” conveyed the McLaren driver.

Despite having a major shunt with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in Lap 21, Alonso recovered brilliantly from last place to eventually having points in his bag. Moreover, the Alpine driver started from P14 after taking the grid penalty due to ICE.

Alonso crossed the finish line about 1.5 seconds behind Norris. With this, the Spaniard took his points tally to 71 after 19 rounds.

Only if Sebastian Vettel would not have such a brilliant finish in the end, the driver of the day award could have gone to Fernando Alonso for sure.
