Bernie Ecclestone once famously quipped that Formula 1 today lacked the characters of yesteryear that made this sport legendary for the fans. While most of what the ex-ringmaster of this sport has to say are dismissed by fans as contentious, his words about the drivers of the golden age of Formula 1 may stand true. Alain Prost, who’s more commonly known as ‘the Professor’ in racing circles proved this right by recently sending F1 fans into a frenzy over at Twitter at the expense of Kelly Piquet.

Nelson Piquet is a polarizing figure in the world of motorsport. Unfortunately, though, the 3x champion is to blame for this due to his bizarre and sometimes downright evil shenanigans. However, as it turns out, this time around the Piquet family was on the receiving end of some X-rated banter, courtesy of Prost!

Prost had taken to his Instagram a while back to post a picture of the drivers back in the day. As he was reminiscing the glorious past, Kelly Piquet decided to join in. She commented, “Where is my dad?” while referring to Nelson Piquet who seemed to be missing in the picture. Prost, uncharacteristically, though to the amazement of fans retorted, “He was with Carlos Reutemann [the then Williams driver] and he repeated every 5min “Harder Carlos, harder Carlos.””

Piquet was known to antagonize Ayrton Senna on many occasions. So much so that it had seriously disturbed the McLaren legend. And while Prost and Senna themselves never really looked eye-to-eye while they were rivals, Prost has then gone on to reveal that they did share a special bond later.

Many believed this to be pay-back for Piquet’s comments about Senna. The whole F1 community being a Senna fan and seeing a bitter rival, and later a close friend, Prost taking a shot to redeem him was all that F1 fans needed really. Safe to say, they were loving it!
