F1 and IndyCar are two of the most popular forms of motorsports, and their fanbase is constantly expanding. Although the cars in both these sports seem a bit similar, they are quite different. And now, the IndyCar driver, Pato O’Ward, has further helped fans distinguish between the two sports by telling us which one is more dangerous than the other.

The Mexican driver is one of the best young talents in IndyCar. He recently talked about how scary it is when things go sideways on the track. He also spoke about how painful it is when a car hits the wall.

Pato O’Ward on IndyCar crashes being more dangerous than Formula 1

F1 is built to be the fastest not only on the straights but also in the corners. However, IndyCar, as compared to F1, has a major advantage when it comes to top speed or straight-line speeds. So naturally, the crash impact there is more. Further, it is known that F1 is safer than IndyCar and many fans talked about the risks in IndyCar.

The journalist Kim Illman told Pato about the F1 drivers not liking the turn 13 of the Miami GP. Further, F1 driver  Esteban Ocon had a 51G crash into the concrete wall at these turns during the inaugural Miami GP.

So, the Arrow McLaren SP driver talked about how the IndyCar drivers experience more impact on crashes. O’Ward reported, “But these guys are hitting like 50Gs, and we’re in the 100 Gs when we hit in Indy. I was talking to Felix and Dixon. When Felix first arrived, he was like, Yeah, I had a crash in Formula E and that I think was 25  or 30 Gs.”

Pato is a worthy candidate for the McLaren F1 team

The Mexican driver currently drives for McLaren in IndyCar and is a test driver for their F1 team. So, Pato has a chance of getting a Formula 1 seat in the future. The former IndyCar owner-driver Bobby Rahal named O’Ward as a potential candidate for an F1 seat in the upcoming seasons.

Rahal reported, “I really like Pato O’Ward, and I know he’s gonna drive in the test in McLaren. I think he’s special, pretty special. And give him some time, and I don’t know what the situation of McLaren is. But they have done a good job of late, so I know a job opportunity is there.”

The current McLaren lineup consists of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris. However, the Australian driver is not meeting the expectations of the Woking base. There are speculations that McLaren might have a new lineup next season. What are your thoughts?
