Even though it was dreary and dark outside, the time was still improving, demonstrating the F1 drivers’ unwavering resolve to establish the quickest lap possible on the Canadian track. However, Oscar Piastri’s timely accident worked well in the team’s favor, so the threatening skies actually worked in favor of Lando Norris and Co.’s side.

Oscar Paistri, who is still in his rookie season, tried to accelerate early on turn seven and went crashing into the walls. This brought in a red flag situation. That’s exactly when the rain gods decided to shower some love on the Woking-based team as the downpour intensified in the middle of Q3 and nobody was able to set a lap time which meant that both McLarens were able to place themselves in decent positions.

After finishing at P7 and P9, the McLaren F1 Twitter handle put out a post that read, “A rollercoaster qualifying session for all involved, but we come out of it with solid starting positions for tomorrow’s race. We’ll send it in the #CanadianGP! ”  

However, the papaya army bursts into loud jubilation rather than being irritated with the pictures of Piastri stuck to the walls.

The session was delayed after the Red Flag, which was hoisted with more than seven minutes left. This worked perfectly to Lando Norris and Co.’s advantage since even though no driver was able to improve their time today. Tomorrow, the Woking-based side can still have an opportunity to show the improved McLaren’s actual capability. This exactly is the motivation behind the papaya army fans’ celebration.
