Red Bull had a more than desirable race result in the United States as they ended their weekend with both drivers on the podium. What they initially considered a Mercedes circuit soon played to their advantage. With the slightly weaker car, aggressive strategies pushed the team to victory. Helmut Marko was a happy man in Austin and is looking forward to definite wins ahead.
Marko’s argument lays the ground that if Red Bull thrived on a circuit that posed a disadvantage, the team is more confident heading to two tracks that favor them. “The last three races were actually all Mercedes tracks and instead of coming to Mexico with a deficit, we come to Mexico with a 12-point lead. Mexico and Brazil should actually suit us even better because of the altitude.”
Confident and ready to rage, the Milton Keynes team head to Mexico 22.5 points behind their rivals. However, with only five rounds till the finale, Marko reinstates the importance of every single point. He insinuates that the next couple of races in Mexico and Brazil have to be won. “As I said, we need to win 10 races if we want to win the championship, so we still need two.”

This is important for the team because the circuits after Brazil have a substantial amount of straights; something that has become Mercedes‘ trump card. “Then maybe we can lean back a little bit in the Middle East tracks because those tracks have crazy straights and Mercedes will certainly play their advantage there.”
Red Bull and Mercedes circuits- is the phenomena true?
Helmut Marko’s predictions couldn’t have been more accurate. Tracks like Losail, which is new to the season, and Yas Marina have a lot of straights with a few corners. Further, these high-speed tracks are optimum for the Silver Arrows.
Although the teams haven’t tried the new Jeddah street circuit, it could be a Red Bull powerhouse. Red Bull’s machine is well suited to street circuits and Jeddah is very, very fast. Further, the circuit has 27 turns with one prominent main straight. High-speed corners are a Max Verstappen favorite, so Jeddah remains open to anyone.
Regardless of favoring circuits, the 2021 season has only shown that maybe there is no such thing. Sure, the physics of the car are more suitable for certain layouts, but it would only make it easier or more difficult for the drivers. However, looking at the titans on top of the scoreboard, they are up for any challenge.

Despite the layout of the circuits, it has been intense wheel-to-wheel racing throughout the season. As much as we can speculate and predict, it really is anybody’s game. Max Verstappen could broaden the gap over the next two races, and Hamilton over the last three. But, with the competition as acute as it is, would it be that simple?
