No matter which side of the fence you are on, whether you are a casual viewer or an obsessive fanatic, there is no one who has not heard of Red Bull’s cost cap breach scandal. The month-long drama finally ended a few days ago as Red Bull and the FIA agreed on the penalties. However, it seems like the matter refuses to stay closed.

Red Bull was found guilty of minor overspending of $2.2 million over the 2021 cost cap. A few days ago, the FIA and Red Bull reached an Accepted Breach Agreement. According to this, Red Bull would be fined $7 million. Additionally, their wind tunnel time would be cut down by 10% for the next 12 months.

While the internet continues to bicker over whether the punishment was fair or not, Christian Horner has other things on his mind. The Red Bull team principal was recently caught musing on the use of the penalty money.

“It’s an enormous amount of money and obviously it’s down to the FIA what it chooses to do with that money, said Horner.

“We just hope it gets put to good use. Obviously, we see championships that are struggling at the moment and hopefully, it can do some good.”

Christian Horner’s words are wise indeed as we look at championships like the W Series that had to wrap up their season early due to financial crisis.

Providing such a constructive solution when their team was fined is definitely a mark of compassion and integrity. However, whether the FIA pays heed to Horner’s advice is another matter entirely.

Red Bull boss demands an apology from their rivals

Those were not the only things Christian Horner had to say about the end of the budget cap drama. As the final chapter unfolded on the scandal, the Red Bull F1 team was subject to a swathe of hate from F1 fans on the internet and on the paddock.

Team principal Christian Horner is certainly not ignorant of this. He has also been well aware of the charge from other teams to take action against Red Bull.

Asked in a press conference if Red Bull owes an apology to the fans, Horner replied: “An apology from who? To be honest with you, we are due an apology from our rivals for the claims that have been made. We make no apology for the way we have performed and acted.”

“We take it on the chin and there are lessons to be learned. But there was no intent, nothing dishonest and there was certainly no cheating involved, which has been alleged in certain quarters.”

Whether the demand made by Horner is brazen or righteous, one thing cannot be denied. And that is Horner’s firmness on Red Bull’s honesty throughout the process. Neither can it be denied that the team principal is fiercely protective of his team’s well-being.

Do you think Christian Horner is right in demanding an apology from his rivals? Or is he the one who should be apologizing for breaking the rules?
