Ferrari is arguably one of the most decorated teams in the history of Formula 1. That being said, their record of championship victories is pretty erratic, to say the least. Their Championship droughts have been the stuff of legends. And this time around, it was Red Bull that dealt the fatal blow to their dreams of resurgence.

Red Bull has been in the business of dominating the world of F1 since 2021. In the meantime, Ferrari has been working hard behind the scenes to rectify their lapses since the end of 2019. But according to Christian Horner, they’ve not worked hard enough. A testament being the 2022 season.

Horner believes that Red Bull stifled Ferrari‘s title charge in 2022, and it worked. He said, “By the time we got to Imola, winning the sprint and the Grand Prix with our first one-two finish of the year, that was able to then put the pressure onto Ferrari and we didn’t give them breathing space.”

“We kept developing the car, managing to lose a bit of weight and Max has been in sensational form this year.”

Even though Ferrari has seemingly dropped the ball in 2022, it would appear that this has become somewhat of a habit for the team from Maranello. Recently, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff was quite analytical whilst evaluating what his team needs to do to avoid Ferrari’s fate.

Toto Wolff points out a major pattern of failure at Ferrari

Toto Wolff is a maverick of the management scene in Formula 1. A testament to this is his exploits with Mercedes during the turbo-hybrid era. That being He’s someone with an acute analytical acumen when it comes to the business of Formula 1 team management. And according to the Austrian boss, there’s a deep-rooted history of failure at Ferrari.

While speaking to RacingNews365.com, he explained, “You can see that with Ferrari, they lost the whole top leadership and the key driver. It is something that you can trace back [to when Schumacher, Brawn and Todt all departed in 2006/07]”

He then went on to warn his own team in the aftermath of a squalid 2022 season.

“But we can be looking at that and thinking that we had better be careful.”
