Mercedes just keeps on adding Lewis Hamilton‘s wounds of 2021 that still aren’t healed. In the 2023 Miami GP when Lewis Hamilton was pushing to at least have something to his name, Bono came onto Hamilton’s radio issuing a warning about Max Verstappen. Hamilton’s reply to the radio message left the LH army devastated, as a bigger problem was in play for the Silver Arrows. Why were the fans devastated, and how did they react?
Max Verstappen won the 2023 Miami GP despite starting from P9. The Dutchman opted to start on hard tires and went long on them. He later pitted off Mediums while everyone else around him was on old hards. As a result, Verstappen easily breezed past Sergio Perez and also set the fastest lap on the second last lap clinching the extra point. However, the ones behind him on the same strategy as he tried matching Verstappen to get the extra point but failed.

One of those trying to get the extra point was Lewis Hamilton. The Briton had a terrible qualifying session and is having a traumatic year with the Mercedes being nowhere near the pace. Towards the end when Bono told Lewis Hamilton about the fastest lap that Verstappen had just done, which was a 1:29:700, the 38-year-old who seems to have lost all hopes asked not to worry about it. It must be heart-wrenching for Lewis Hamilton to see his 2021 championship rival flying away in a rocketship.
According to the Tweet uploaded by Fiagirly, Bono radioed Lewis Hamilton “Verstappen got quicker again. 29.7.” To which the Briton replied, “Don’t worry about it.”
With Hamilton losing hopes of the fastest lap, Bono replied, “Yea that’s what we’re thinking.”
It certainly felt like the whole Mercedes crew have given up on their chances and were just waiting for the new major upgrade now. Lewis Hamilton struggled all race but still managed to finish P6 after starting P13. However, fans were quick to grab onto this radio message and expressed their thought about Lewis Hamilton giving up because the W14 is just not fast enough.
