Heading into the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Vettel was on a poor run of form. With no points from the first four races this season, Vettel barely troubled the top 10, finishing no higher than 13th. In addition, he’s coming off a dismal 2020 season in which he scored only 33 points with Ferrari.

A sensational drive by the German got him 10 points today, which made him a relieved man. The man driving car #5 gave Aston Martin its highest finish this season, with the team taking 19 points away in total.

The German was also voted as the ‘Driver of the Day’, ahead of Sergio Perez, with 23% of the votes.

Vettel was overjoyed with the double-points finish, which he also made clear on the team radio. He said, “Finally, some points in the bag! Finally, some points, thank you! Big points! Great job guys, thank you!”

Their strategy worked wonders, with an overcut putting Vettel ahead of Lewis Hamilton after pitting in Lap 33. In addition, they worked an overcut on Stroll as well, which helped him keep P8 in the race.

The four-time world champion expressed his delight on the post-race team radio, appreciating the strategy. “Yes boys! Tough race, but well managed. Nice one, nice overcut. Car was great this afternoon, thank you!” said Vettel.
