Valtteri Bottas definitely took everyone by surprise when he took pole at the Mexican GP qualifying. Although he was the faster Mercedes throughout the weekend, he was still behind both Red Bulls. But his first lap in the Q3 session was near perfect and almost two-tenths clear of everyone.

After claiming the pole position, Valtteri opened up about his special celebration.

After being informed by his race engineer that he had secured pole position, Valtteri went on to express his joy on the team radio.

“Oh, yes haha. Oh, thank you. Yes, nice one, Viva Mexico. We will get tacos tonight.”

But that wasn’t the only time the Finn hinted at his love for tacos. In the press conference, he boasted of his abilities to eat a hefty amount of the Mexican dish.

“I had some tacos here. They’re a bit smaller than what you get in Europe. I think if I had them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—only tacos — I would say I can 30. That’s estimating,” joked the Mercedes driver.

Ever since he announced that he will leave the Mercedes next season for Alfa Romeo, we have seen a more relaxed Bottas. Not only has his on-track performance improved, but his fun side has also been shining through on social media. He has been actively taking part in memes and making frequent appearances on Mercedes’ TikTok account.

I’m 100% sure I can still win the race: Valtteri Bottas

As reported by PlanetF1, Bottas is confident that he can turn his pole position into victory on Sunday. However, he will discuss a plan with Lewis Hamilton to keep both Red Bulls behind throughout the race.

“We need to speak with Lewis about how we can maintain the lead as a team and keep the Red Bulls behind. You never know what the race situation will be. I’m 100% sure there could be a circumstance I can still win the race and I believe in that, I hope for that.

“But if not, then I will support Lewis and get the maximum points for us as a team,” said the Mercedes driver.

Bottas’ role would be crucial at the start of the race, as he would be the driver who would provide the slipstream for everyone. The team would need to position both cars in a way that they both benefit from the start, whilst keeping their rivals behind.
