Mercedes has launched their 2022 Challenger, W13 on February 18. During the event, team boss Toto Wolff and drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were seen praising the new machine. Subsequently to the unveiling the team took their new W13 for a shakedown. However, what came next is what caught more attention than the shakedown itself.

During the 2021 season, Mercedes recruited George Russell to drive in the place of Valtteri Bottas this season. The Briton joined the Brackley-based team on a long-term contract. Although the former William’s man has driven for Mercedes before, this will be the first time he’ll be driving a Mercedes car, specifically designed for him.

Interestingly, George has driven for the eight times constructor’s champions back in 2020. When Hamilton was out due to Covid-19, Russell drove his car and was almost on the way to give Mercedes a victory. Sadly, a tire failure and a mistake from the team’s pit crew kept him from getting his first victory for the silver arrows.
