Charles Leclerc is flying this season. He is among the favorites for winning the championship title this year. Because Leclerc is the 2022 drivers’ world championship leader.

However, the driver’s standing leader was just a rookie four years ago when driving for the Sauber F1 team. The Monegasque driver bagged the first F1 points in his career in the 2018 Azerbaijan GP. Leclerc finished sixth after starting from P14, bagging eight points.

Now four years later, he’s now driving for one of the best F1 teams, Ferrari. He is dominating the 2022 season and has won two races and a second-place finish in the last four races. He is leading the championship with 86 points. Undoubtedly, he has come a long way from just celebrating his first F1 points to now being a championship leader.

Charles Leclerc won’t repeat the Imola mistake again

The 24-year-old was the favorite to win the Emilia Romagna GP, as it was also the home race for the Ferrari F1. And Leclerc is in phenomenal form, so there were high hopes from the Monegasque driver.

However, those hopes crashed when the Ferrari man was chasing the Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez. At the Variante Alta chicane, Leclerc performed an aggressive move over the curb which sent him spinning and took a slight hit to his front wing.

Because of the damage, Leclerc had to make a pit stop and lost his podium place. Eventually, Charles had to satisfy with a P6 in the Imola race. However, Leclerc learned from his mistake and does not intend to let it happen again.

Leclerc said, “But I’ve always been strong in knowing exactly which particular feeling I felt at what moment of the race, and know how to correct it. So yeah, it’s again, a mistake but I’ll learn from it and won’t do it again.”

Charles Leclerc is having a phenomenal season and comfortably leading the drivers’ standings. However, the gap between him and the reigning champion Max Verstappen decreased after the Imola race. So, Leclerc needs to avoid errors like in Imola to keep his championship lead.
