An excellent qualifying result for McLaren driver Lando Norris was the source of his and his fans’ sheer delight. Norris out-qualified a Mercedes and a Red Bull to P3 in the last race of the season, the result of which could be crucial in how his and his team’s season ends.

Yet, as happy as his fans, his team, or Norris himself was, there was someone else whose happiness was greater than anyone else in the world, his mother. The McLaren driver’s parents were present in the pit lane after their son surprised everyone in what was truly a great lap for P3.

In a video posted by McLaren’s official Twitter page, his mother, who is wearing Norris’ cap, applauds proudly before embracing her son. Norris gets a pat on the back and a hug from his father too, but it’s his mother’s beautiful reaction that is sure to melt everyone’s heart.

The Briton also posted his own delight on his Twitter account. He wrote, “THIRD! WAHOOOOO!”

Lando Norris was aiming a bit higher than what he achieved

The McLaren driver joked to David Coulthard in his post-qualifying interview that he had his eyes and efforts set on something other than P3. Norris said, “I went for pole, didn’t quite work out. It was a nice lap. To be in P3 was a bit of a surprise.”

He described how sitting directly behind Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is making him a little nervous. And although he will be vigilant to not get involved, or get on the wrong side of either the Red Bull or Mercedes in one of the greatest title battles in F1 history, he will make a move if he gets the chance to do so.

“I’ll do my best and if I get a chance I’ll go for it.”

The McLaren driver is currently sixth in the driver’s championship behind Charles Leclerc by only four points. A start from P3 will give a big boost to his chances to finish fifth in the championship, which will be the highest finish in his three-season-long career.

And doing that in front of his parents will only add to the meaning of Sunday’s race in Abu Dhabi.
