Bringing excitement to a rather dull day, Shane Van Gisbergen won the Supercars Championship in Sydney. With a second championship in the bag, it called for a celebration. However, with conditions reflecting the likes of the 2021 F1 Belgian GP, there was little that could be done. Except for some celebratory donuts, of course. Looks like the champ took notes from Lewis Hamilton!

It wasn’t the grand finale a driver hopes for when claiming the title, but Gisbergen wasn’t complaining. With only five laps behind the safety car, the weather conditions were too extreme for a proper race. The red flag was waved, and soon, the Kiwi was celebrating.

It was an F1-worthy celebration as he took his Holden Commodore out on the tracks and in true Hamilton and Vettel style, celebrated with donuts. The mark of a champion! Another champion in the books for Red Bull. Would there be a similar outcome in F1?

Looks like it’s customary for champions to leave their mark on the tracks as they take the crown. In 2013, Seb’s fourth championship in a row was celebrated with donuts at the Indian GP. Although he was later fined for his celebrations, it was a moment to remember.

The donuts lead to one of the most iconic moments in F1- as Vettel claimed out of the cockpit and went in front of his car and bowed down before it. Vettel went wild in those moments, running up and down the main straight, dancing in joy. Only 26 years old at the time, Vettel had set the benchmark for the drivers to come.

Even last season, Lewis Hamilton celebrated a milestone 7th championship in Abu Dhabi. In the aftermath of testing positive for the Coronavirus, it was great to see Hamilton on the track. And as the team made history together, there were donuts for everyone!

It’s a wonderful way of celebrating the victories of both the car and the driver. With a Red Bull car taking the championship in Sydney, will we see a Red Bull take the title in Abu Dhabi? Or will Hamilton celebrate his eighth title with donuts on the track? Only three races to go…
