Former McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, is arguably one of the greatest drivers F1 has ever witnessed. And his success on the track has garnered him one of the biggest fan bases in the world.
One might reckon it is also the biggest when compared to fellow colleagues on the grid at the moment. And the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo also acknowledged this theory while playing a game called ‘Mr and Mrs’ against each other.

What did the McLaren drivers say?
During the game, the drivers were given a handful of placards that have certain scenarios. Both had to choose which one of them would fit perfectly for the scenario. One of the questions was, “who has the best fans?”
It initially looked like the battle would be quite tough, considering Ricciardo has a massive fan following, and so does his teammate. However, Ricciardo gave up on the battle by placing the limelight on former McLaren driver, Hamilton.
The British driver has grown into becoming the face of Formula 1 over the years. Hence, Ricciardo felt that Hamilton has the best fans.
“We don’t have the right face for this one, ‘Who has the best fans?‘ It’s definitely Lewis. Every place we go, isn’t it?” Ricciardo said. And Norris, being a Briton himself, couldn’t help but affirm the fact.
He further felt that Hamilton’s fandom isn’t restricted to his nationality, and is instead spread all over the world. “Of course, he has the best fans everywhere we go,” Norris responded to Ricciardo’s claim.
Best fans – Ricciardo or Norris?
The answer is Ricciardo, as of now. Of course, Norris is one of the most interesting drivers on the grid at the moment. And his fan-following is rapidly growing each race weekend. However, the only aspect where Ricciardo manages to supersede his teammate is experience.

Ricciardo has been in the business since 2011. And over this entire decade, Ricciardo has garnered fans through his hilarious team radio conversations, press conferences, and also his sheer pace on the track.

But, of course, his dominion is temporary, as Norris is certainly growing to be one of the most famous F1 drivers.

The Briton has earned fans through F1, yes. But apart from racing, there are several other gateways, like Twitch and social media, through which fans are swarming to support the young British driver. Hence, joining F1 only in 2019, can Norris’ fan following eventually rise up to be the biggest? Only time will tell.
