McLaren have one of the biggest legacies in Formula 1’s history. Founded in 1963, the team has won eight constructors’ championships and 12 drivers’ championships over the years. However, the team has seen an unfortunate decline in their performance over the past decade.

In 2018, the team announced Zak Brown as the CEO to help bring McLaren back to the top. Two years later, the team delivered their best result since 2012 as they finished the 2020 season at P3 on the championship standing.

The Formula 1 community is eagerly waiting for the Woking outfit‘s comeback in the coming seasons; the team has re-ignited their partnership with Mercedes and signed Daniel Ricciardo to help realize that goal.

What the future holds for McLaren?

After an impressive 2020 season, the team is looking forward to claiming another top-three finish this season. The difference between McLaren and the other mid-field teams is not significant. The team has to battle very hard with Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Alpine F1 to retain that P3 position.

However, the Mercedes partnership can help the team claim it. More importantly, the team has signed Daniel Ricciardo for this season. The Australian is an experienced race winner and makes an impressive lineup with Lando Norris for next season.

“We also have two top-line drivers in Daniel [Ricciardo] and Lando [Norris], and the best power unit in Formula 1 with Mercedes Benz to give us the resources to meet our ambition which is to get back to the front. That’s what this means for McLaren Racing,” explained Brown.

The 2022 technical regulation will help make the platform much more even for all the teams. The combination of the power-unit and drivers could give McLaren a great chance to close the gap with the top teams and climb the championship.
