It has been a pretty dismal start to Max Verstappen’s title defense this season. The Dutch driver has only managed to finish in one out of 3 races 2022 season. But the good news for the Red Bull driver is that he won the race that he completed in Saudi Arabia. But Max Verstappen was already joking about his 2 DNFs in the 2 races.

While racing on the simulator with his friends, Max reflected on the season and commented on the start. Red Bull has arguably the fastest car on the grid, but it is highly unreliable. In both Bahrain and Australia, Verstappen retired because of some reliability concerns with his fuel tank.

Max Verstappen gives his thoughts on RB18’s unreliability

While racing with his friends on the sim, the Red Bull driver did not mince his words and expressed his frustration quite clearly. When one of his friends suggested that he should start from the back and then race.

” Well, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter for me if I start in the front or the back. I don’t finish the race anyway,” replied Verstappen.

The world champion doesn’t seem very confident with his 2022 challenger. Moreover, he has mentioned that it will be a very big task from here on to win his second title.

“We need to be faster than them, which we’re not. And have zero problems with the car, which we also don’t have. So it’s going to be a big task. At the moment, there is no reason to believe in it,” said the Red Bull driver.

Max’s frustrations have been quite evident on his team radios as well. He does not seem to have any answers to why the RB18 is so unreliable this season. So it is justified that he is concerned about his title defense as he has just finished in one race.

But the good news is the Austrian team has a fast car that is on par with Ferrari this season. It would be interesting to see if the team can resolve its issues in the upcoming races and get back into the title fight.
