Lewis Hamilton desperately needed a victory in Brazil, a country that has often witnessed Red Bull carrying the mantle. And, hence, the Briton needed something really special to defeat his in-form rival, Max Verstappen.
Of course, then arrived the untimely disqualification from qualifying, which then led Hamilton to from P1 to P20 on the grid ahead of the sprint.
But, boy did we get to see the classic, most aggressive version of the 7-time world champion today at Interlagos that once ruled the grid back in 2008. Hence, after securing the race win in his hero, Ayrton Senna’s home, Mercedes’ team principal, Toto Wolff arrived on the team radio to laud Hamilton’s champion drive.

The Lewis Hamilton-Toto Wolff radio exchange
Hamilton certainly had to overcome some massive hurdles throughout the weekend. Not only was he forced to start from the back of the grid for Saturday’s sprint, but also fell a further 5 positions back ahead of Sunday’s main race as well.
Wolff had a minor miscalculation and pointed out on Hamilton’s radio that he just overcame a 20-place disqualification. However, Hamilton had his boss’ back and corrected him by saying it was actually 25.
“That is how you overcome a 25… uh 20 place disqualification!” Wolff said. Then arrived Hamilton’s reply – “It was actually 25, but you’re right!”
Hamilton creates a new Brazil record
For the first time at Interlagos, a driver, starting from lower than P8 on the grid, managed to win the race. And who better than Hamilton to break that astonishing record. The Briton started the race from P10 and managed a strong getaway, clearing a couple of cars well before turn 1.

Then arrived the Sainz-Norris incident, which further pushed Hamilton up to P6. And following a couple of moves on Leclerc and Gasly and a simple pass on Bottas, it was just the Red Bull drivers standing in his way from the victory.

Both the Red Bull drivers, well aware of the current title situation, put up their best defense against Hamilton. However, with a fresh engine at the back, the Mercedes was feeding enough power to Hamilton to ease past the duo.
