Former McLaren teammates, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz, were arguably the best pair-up in years, with the partnership breaking apart following the 2020 F1 season. And, unsurprisingly, many assumed that the two would diverge onto different paths, and possibly end up as rivals.
But, quite interestingly, the bromance is still going strong despite the duo currently racing in rival F1 teams, McLaren and Ferrari. The latest banter between Norris and Sainz unfolded over the Russian Grand Prix weekend, as the former ended up taking a hilarious dig at the latter during a press conference.
What is the banter about between Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz?

It all started with a question from an interviewer; He asked Norris and George Russell to weigh in on the secret behind their recent on-track success. Interestingly, Sainz was left out! Of course, as the question ended, Russell and Norris had a war over who was going to answer it.
“Oh, no George can have this one,” Norris said. Russell returned the ball back onto Norris’ court as he replied, “No, you have this one.”
Norris then replied, “So Britty!”

Soon, Russell was asked to start, but the Williams driver was still in denial. “No! Okay. The camera is on Lando,” he said. Then arrived Sainz at the scene, as he tried to solve the dilemma. “If you want I can start,” the Spaniard offered a solution.
But Norris shot down his offer by taking a dig at his former McLaren colleague. “No! You’re not involved.”
Battle for P4 between Norris and Sainz?
Norris was off to a flying start earlier this season, producing consecutive top 10 finishes until the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hence, it looked like the Briton might safely secure the P3 to himself, albeit mild threat from Sergio Perez.

But, since the Belgian GP, a bigger threat is impending. Not only has Norris underperformed since the start of the season’s second half, but Sainz has also been churning out a significant number of points for Ferrari. And the gap between Norris and Sainz is now down to 26.5 points.
Assuming this trend continues, there is a massive chance that the Spaniard will supersede his former teammate quite efficiently before the end of this season.
