Charles Leclerc had a rollercoaster of a ride at the Styrian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver started the race at P7 and involved in an early incident when he contacted Pierre Gasly on Lap 1 at turn three, which resulted in an early pit stop.

He fell to the second last position, but made an incredible recovery to finish at the same position he started. Moreover, he was voted as the Driver of the Day after performing several overtakes and making a great comeback.

While his overtakes impressed his fans, they didn’t sit so well with the drivers he overtook, especially Kimi Raikkonen. When he was passing the Iceman, the two made contact, and the Alfa Romeo driver lost some part of his front wing.

Something similar happened last week as well, when both Leclerc and Kimi were involved in a near-miss incident at Circuit Paul Ricard. Fortunately, because of their quick reaction time, they avoided a huge crash, only just touching wheel-to-wheel.

What did Kimi Raikkonen say?

It is understandable that Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen was fuming after Leclerc damaged  his front wing.

The Iceman loses all his cool and said over the radio to his team: “F**k me, I think he took my front wing. Just f*****g turned on. Why the F**k he didn’t keep his line.”

Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, didn’t even realize that they had made contact. After the race, he said “I actually didn’t feel any contact with Kimi. I actually learned just before that we had touched with Kimi, but I didn’t feel anything in the car.”

The Monegasque came in contact Pierre Gasly in the early stages of the race, which forced the latter to box and change his front wing. As a result, he lost several places and almost started the race at the end.

However, the Ferrari man managed to finish the race from where he started, yet he described the result as “bittersweet.”

“It’s definitely a bittersweet feeling because if you take off lap one, I rank this performance as one of my best,” said Charles Leclerc.

“Well first, thanks to the car, obviously. But there was also a lot of overtaking. We didn’t lose much time in traffic. And it was just a fun race. I didn’t watch a lot of my mirrors, it was more focusing on what was ahead.”
