The new engine era of Formula 1 in 2026
There will be many elements that will be key toward the big goals Formula 1 has for its future. One of which is the engine fuel that powers the internal combustion engine.
F1 aims to create and use a laboratory-manufactured fuel from 2026, which could then be used in road cars as well.
“..will be laboratory-created, using components that come from either a carbon capture scheme, municipal waste or non-food biomass while achieving greenhouse gas emissions savings relative to fossil-derived petrol of at least 65 percent,” said the F1 website, as reported by Car and Bike.
There is also a big possibility of other OEMs entering the sport in 2026, namely Volkswagen and two of its subsidiary companies, Audi and Porsche.
In collaboration with Volkswagen, Formula 1 aims to take its already pioneering hybrid technology and create a better, more sustainable power unit to replace the current MGU-H.
