Lewis Hamilton may have stolen the show in the qualifying session at the Qatar Grand Prix. However, a driver that caught everyone by surprise was his former McLaren teammate, Fernando Alonso.
The 2-time world champion had an amazing session at the Qatari circuit, as he found himself fifth on the timesheet. What makes this even better, is that Alonso came on the team radio to express his joy.

Fernando Alonso is over the moon on the team radio after qualifying fifth
The Losail International Circuit is a new track on the Formula One calendar, and drivers didn’t know what to expect. But it seems that Alonso enjoyed himself as he zipped around the track, as he took fifth place in the timesheet.

Alonso said, “So enjoyable! I could be here all night long. Thank you for this car. We will see you tomorrow.”

Can Alpine grab double points this weekend in Qatar?
The Enstone-based team had a good qualifying session on Saturday. French driver, Esteban Ocon managed to get himself into round three and find himself to be ninth on the timesheet.
Meanwhile, his Spanish teammate, Alonso brought his A-game to the Losail Circuit, he was the fifth-fastest driver of the session. Both, Alonso and Ocon will be looking forward to Sunday’s race, as it offers them a good chance to grab some much-needed points for the constructor’s championship.

Currently sitting fifth in the standings with 112 points to their name, the Alpine duo will be hoping to extract maximum performance out of their cars to bring in a good result.
