The group has been related to F1 for quite a while. It has a rich history. The group initially contending in Formula One in 1981 as Toleman.

In 1986, the Benetton Group bought the team. It was renamed and contended as Benetton. As Benetton, it won the 1995 Constructors' Championship. The group's driver, Michael Schumacher, won two Drivers' Championships - 1994 and 1995.

By the 2000 season, Renault had bought the group, and the name changed to Renault F1 Team for the 2002 season. Renault won the Constructors' Championship in 2005 and 2006. Fernando Alonso, the driver of the Renault F1 group won the Drivers' Championships in those two years.

In 2011, Lotus Cars became the title sponsor of the team, and the group's name changed to Lotus Renault GP.

In 2012, Genii Capital became the majority stakeholder in the group. From 2012 until 2015 the group's name was Lotus F1 Team. The name was after the team's sponsor, and it raced as "Lotus".

Toward the finish of 2015, Renault had assumed control over the group again. They renamed it to Renault Sport Formula One Team. The group raced as "Renault" once again, from 2016, until the finish of the 2020 season.

<h2><strong>Esteban Ocon 2021: Net Worth, Salary, and Endorsements</strong></h2>
Esteban Ocon got the short end of the stick at the end of the 2018 season. The Frenchman took up karting in 2006 and only progressed from there.

In 2012, he joined the Formula Renault 2.0 Championship and raced there for two years. Then, in 2014, he went up to the Formula Renault 3.5 series for two races. In the same year, he raced in the European Formula 3 championship. Also, he was appointed as the test driver for Lotus F1.

A year later, he joined the GP3 Series and became a test driver for Sahara Force India. Finally, in 2016, he got his big break when he was called up by the Manor team to replace Indonesian driver <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Haryanto">Rio Haryanto</a>.

For the next two years, Ocon partnered with <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/sergio-perez/">Sergio Perez</a> at Force India, later renamed to Racing Point.
<h2><strong>On-track Achievements</strong></h2>
In his first season in European Formula 3, he proved his mettle straightaway by grabbing a podium in the first race. He followed it up with a win in the next race. From Race 2 in Hockenheim, he registered a podium streak of eight races. Overall, he won the championship with nine wins and 12 podiums.

In GP3, he took the championship again and he did not finish lower than 7th. Ocon bagged one win and 13 podiums on his way to the title, beating Luca Ghioto.

Coming to Ocon's F1 stint, he had a record 27-race finishing streak. Sadly, it was broken in Brazil 2017 after <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/romain-grosjean/">Romain Grosjean</a> collided with him. He went on to finish 8th in the 2017 championship.

In 2018, he ended the season in 12th place and his performance was not enough to warrant a seat anywhere. Fortunately, Mercedes snapped him up and made him their reserve driver.

After a year away from F1, Ocon is back at Renault. For the 2021 F1 season, he will drive with F1 Champion <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/fernando-alonso/">Fernando Alonso</a>. The Renault F1 team is rebranded as the Alpine F1 team.

The French driver achieved his best F1 performance at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, where he finished in 2nd position.

Fernando Alonso has been established as one of the best drivers of his generation. The Spaniard is one driver who should never be underestimated. Even in a car that was not up to the mark, he would wring out every ounce of performance and put it in places where it should not be.

He made his debut in 2001 driving for Minardi. However, Alonso's 'retirement' from Formula 1 didn't last very long. In July 2020, Alonso announced his return to the pinnacle of motorsport with Renault turned Alpine in 2021. Coming full circle, Alonso rejoined the French team, having completed 2 previous stints with the Enstone outfit.

The Spaniard partnered Esteban Ocon at the Renault-powered Alpine Racing over the 2021 season. Alonso went on to clinch his first podium in years at the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix.

He will stay with the team until the end of 2022 while his teammate extended his stay until the end of 2024.
