After the Monaco GP qualifying session, Red Bull driver and F1 world champion Max Verstappen was not a happy man. He finished the session P4 behind the two Ferraris and his teammate, Sergio Perez. But he was arguably more disappointed and frustrated about not having the opportunity to complete his final flying lap in Monaco for the second year in a row.

His frustrations were on full display in the pitlane after the session. He was in no mood to talk to anyone from his team, including his race engineer and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. Verstappen walked right past the Austrian after the session, when Marko wanted to talk.

Marko revealed he can understand Max’s feelings as his final lap could have been a threat to pole-sitter Charles Leclerc. “It’s annoying. Max was three-tenths faster until the incident happened. The weak point, turn one, was now solved. We were on par with Leclerc,” said Marko.

Verstappen, like many others, will hope that there is some rain for the main race in Monaco. It would be hard for him to make progress otherwise and challenge for the win on Sunday.

In his post-qualifying interview, the world champion revealed he is hoping for some chaos in the main race for him to thrive and make an impact. It is difficult to make progress in Monaco on the track, as it is almost impossible to overtake.

“It depends on what the weather will do. A little bit of chaos would be nice, but if it’s not, then you try to score the most possible points in my position… Overall, it’s been a little bit more of a tricky weekend,” said Max.

Max has not been on pace with his teammate throughout the weekend. So it would be interesting to see how the team plays the strategic game in the main race on Sunday. Will they favor the world champion over Sergio Perez once again and give him a better track strategy? Only time will tell.
