The 21-year-old had a disappointing debut season last year ending P14 with 32 points. His best result came at the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, finishing just outside of the podium places. However, with teammate Pierre Gasly, he will be motivated to improve from his maiden campaign.

Tsunoda spoke in 2021 about his disappointing run saying, “The first half of the season was quite inconsistent and also from my side, I was a bit surprised I’d be staying next year so first of all thanks to the team, and really excited for this opportunity again for next year. And for this year, just learn as much as possible.”
Tsunoda begins his second season at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20 with AlphaTauri.

In 2020, Tsunoda drove for Carlin in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He secured three wins, four pole positions, seven podiums, and finished 3rd in the championship with 200 points. A call-up to Formula 1, however, has not gone according to plan.
After a disappointing debut in 2021, Tsunoda will drive the AT03, which has been impressive in testing. However, with new regulations, the teams will look to get the ground running in Bahrain. With major aerodynamical changes, Tsunoda will have to get comfortable in the new car.
