Red Bull won the driver’s title last season and put an end to Mercedes’s total dominance. But many fans and experts believe that Michael Masi’s controversial decision was the reason behind Max Verstappen’s victory. But team principal Christian Horner still thinks the wrong decisions affected them (Red Bull) negatively.

The 2022 season has finally begun and all F1 teams are in Bahrain for the first race. Meanwhile, Damon Hill went around the paddock after Friday practice, interviewing the drivers and team principals. The former F1 world champion also came across the  Red Bull boss and asked him about the questionable decisions last season.

Christian Horner explains how his team suffered last year because of the wrong decisions by the race director. Horner says, “Throughout the year, we have always been on the wrong end of the decision-making.”

This response by Horner even surprises Hill because of the controversial Abu Dhabi tragedy where the Austrian constructor got the most advantage due to Masi’s wrong decision. Therefore, a surprised Damon Hill said to Horner, “Are you sure about that? I mean, seriously?”

Christian Horner sees Ferrari as the primary rival

After the pre-season testing in Bahrain, Red Bull and Ferrari are among the favorites to win the first race this season. Both the constructors returned to the Bahrain International Circuit for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Red Bull and Ferrari again were impressive on the Friday testing. Also, Max Verstappen was the fastest in the FP2 while the Ferrari duo finished 2-3 right behind the Dutchman.

The Italian constructor’s pace even impressed the Red Bull boss, Christian Horner. Therefore, the Maranello base is the primary target for the Austrian F1 team to defeat in the Bahrain Qualifiers. Horner expressed, “I think Ferrari are very quick. You can see Leclerc today was quick, Carlos Sainz was quick, whenever they have been on track during pre-season they have looked very impressive. So they could be the car to beat tomorrow.”

After the impressive Friday practice, both Ferrari and Red Bull returned to the circuit for the Saturday practice. Max Verstappen again was the fastest in the FP3 and even Sergio Perez joined the top 3 on FP3. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc at P2 was the only Ferrari driver in the top 3 on the Saturday Practice. Later, both teams will return to the grid for qualifying.
