Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz had a horrible weekend at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. It was looking so good for the Spanish driver after the first practice session on Friday. Unfortunately, he made a costly mistake in the qualifying that hampered him throughout the weekend.

He got himself back in the Sprint race as he cut through the field to finish P4. But there was a funny moment when he went for Post- Sprint race interviews in the media pen. We can see the Ferrari driver was clueless about where he was supposed to go when all the drivers were doing their interviews.

For a moment, he thought he could join Ricciardo and Perez in conversation, but Daniel went to give his interview. It is quite funny to see Carlos being so unaware of what to do in the media pen.

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto advises Carlos Sainz after his contract extension

Another important thing that happened to Sainz this weekend was he extended his contract with the Italian team. He will now stay with the team until the end of the 2024 season.

But it looks like he has been struggling a lot from increased pressure this season because of the competitiveness of the car. Binotto revealed Sainz has to get used to the pressure that is there this season and there is no way around it.

“I think that’s a matter of managing the pressure. It is maybe the first time in his career he has got a car that is fast enough to compete for the best positions and he simply needs to get used to that. But he will do it very quickly because I know how smart and how capable he is to manage the pressure,” said Binotto.

It is really strange to see the Spanish driver struggling so much this season. The team or the driver have given no specific reason for their struggles as compared to Leclerc. But it would give hope to Carlos that his team principal backs him to make a comeback this season.

Hopefully, Sainz can deliver on Mattia‘s promise and come good in the next few races. It is indeed a crunch time for him as he may have to play second fiddle if he continues with his poor form.
