Carlos Sainz has started the 2022 season in solid fashion, although he has had a series of disappointing results because of errors on his part. His wavered driving continued as he once again spun into the gravel trap during the Pirelli tire test.

Just a few days after a P2 finish, he tested his F1-75 in Fiorano, Italy as part of Pirelli’s initiative. The Spaniard tested on the wet tires. Apparently, the car either lost traction, or the driver pushed it too hard, which led to this incident.

Sainz also raced with wet tires in Monaco as the rain played a huge part during the Grand Prix. While he is showing improvement, his results in the last few races would have not satisfied Ferrari. Although he has managed to pick up four podiums, his errors have proved costly.

In Australia, he was stuck in the gravel trap as a result of trying to overtake a Haas. Moving on to Imola, his race ended prematurely because of a crash with Daniel Ricciardo and coincidently he ended up on the gravels again. And his incident with the gravel trap did not stop there. A gust of wind meant that he spun into it one more time during his home race in Barcelona.

Despite bouncing back and finishing 4th, a trip to the gravels cost him a podium finish in Spain. Well, Sainz’s incidents with the trap continued and he will hope to stop going off the track in the upcoming races.

Carlos Sainz opens up on Monaco GP

Carlos Sainz had a quietly solid race in Monaco as he finished P2. While Ferrari mismanaged Leclerc’s strategy, Sainz conveyed his strategy call himself and it worked. He stayed out on the wet tires when everyone moved into intermediaries and took the lead.

But disaster struck when he changed into slick tires. During his out-lap, Nicholas Latifi held him and it cost him the race win. Subsequently, Sergio Perez emerged victorious while the Spaniard had to settle for second.

Speaking on the disappointing incident, he said, “It was, it was, but I felt like we did everything that we had to do out there. We stayed patient on the wets, we took the right decision to go onto the slick, and yeah, a lapped car or a terrible out lap stuck behind a lapped car cost me a race win today, so you can understand the frustration because a clean out lap would have secured me the race win today but it’s how the sport is sometimes.”
