Russia declared war on Ukraine and Haas, being true to its American DNA, terminated the contract of Nikita Mazepin overnight. While that bold and impulsive step has only paid well for Guenther Steiner and co., Mazepin has been on the losing end of this Russian Roulette. And while the Russian showed promise in the junior categories of Formula racing, his stay in F1 was just fodder for Netflix. And that is exactly what fans have decided to remind him of.

While Haas kicked him out, his billionaire dad, Dmitry Mazepin, being known as the close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, saw sanctions and frozen assets flood him. The likes of Britain and Canada imposed an asset freeze and even a travel ban. This apparently is what is hampering his negotiations for a 2024 F1 contract.

As quoted by ESPN, Mazepin in his witness statement said that “even if — or while — the Canadian sanctions remain in place, there is at least a prospect of me being able to enter into negotiations to return to Formula One if sanctions are lifted in both the EU and the UK.”

Mazepin is challenging EU and Canadian sanctions as part of his attempt to return to Formula 1. Seeing this, fans have torn him and his aspirations to shreds.

Fans destroy Nikita Mazepin’s F1 return hopes

Not being able to turn many heads with his performance and with a not-so-warm attitude, Nikita Mazepin was at Haas because Uralkali was their main sponsor. And since his departure, no team has stated that they want him back, especially with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo still up for grabs. But he certainly feels that the sanctions are stopping him from negotiating with the teams for his F1 return. And F1 Twitter has decided to point that out.
