Scuderia Ferrari is embroiled in yet another controversy. This is largely in relation to the FIA-Ferrari dispute over the SF90’s power unit.

Recently, the FIA concluded their investigation on the situation. The governing body and Scuderia Ferrari reached a settlement between themselves behind closed doors.

The primary source of conflict was the fuel flow meter. Rival teams alleged that it pumped in more fuel than normal. The investigation details and the settlement were kept under wraps.

Interestingly, Ferrari insider and blogger, Leo Turrini suspected that an informant triggered the mess at Scuderia Ferrari.

What are the details of the Ferrari investigation?

In the second half of the 2019 season, Ferrari’s form suddenly picked up and looked like championship material. However many rivals smelt a rat because of the unexpected upsurge.

So, Red Bull and Mercedes approached the governing body with their suspicions. They called for the FIA to investigate immediately. Of course, they had the intended effect of Ferrari’s pace dropping off dramatically. With that, Mercedes had free reign to romp away with the title double.

Whether a mole was involved in leaking information to the FIA, is anybody’s guess. Admittedly, this is not the first time that there was a whistleblower in Ferrari.

In 2008, there was the infamous Spygate controversy involving Ferrari and McLaren. As it turned out, some Ferrari personnel passed on critical information to some McLaren employees.

Ex Ferrari chief mechanic, Nigel Stepney was subject to an internal investigation, followed by a criminal investigation. Investigators discovered that McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan possessed sensitive documents from the Italian giants.

Naturally, both teams dismissed the offending team personnel from duty. McLaren even invited the FIA to inspect its cars. The idea was to confirm that they did not incorporate parts from their rival. After the mess McLaren was docked all its constructor’s points.

However, the FIA merely gave the outfit a rap on the knuckle this time. Some believe that the arguments between the Italian marquee and the FIA’s findings were ’50-50′. This would explain why the Maranello outfit opted to settle. Whether rival teams will accept this, let it go and focus on the 2020 season, is anybody’s guess.
