Everyone, from fans and staff to teammates and rivals, has always described Daniel Ricciardo as the laughing, full-of-energy personality on the paddocks. However, changed over his last few seasons.

Daniel Ricciardo was meant to be the next hotshot. He got eight podiums in his first season at Red Bull and finished third at the end of the season. Sadly, things have not looked good since the Aussie’s moves to Renault and McLaren failed.

While McLaren has its future sorted out as Oscar Piastri replaces his fellow Australian, Ricciardo has been left stranded. In a sour turn of events, while he posted an Instagram story declaring he is fully committed to McLaren, the team had been in negotiations for his replacement.

According to Zak Brown, McLaren did all it could in trying to make it work with Ricciardo.

Brown says, “We’ve tried changing cars and offering to change people. It’s been two seasons, two different cars. We thought year one, maybe it just didn’t gel with the car. Year two, it’s a totally different car…And Lando’s driving great and getting the car to perform. So I don’t think there’s anything we would have done differently, or could have seen, or should have known.”

Although publicly both parties maintain cordial relations, there have been hints of hostility. Ricciardo recently posted on LinkedIn, hinting at his troubles with McLaren. The post subtly ‘attacks’ the Woking-based team.

Hostility between Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren

Ricciardo in the post says “…Nothing quite like being surrounded by a supportive team to keep the optimism up!

Fans have picked up the very thinly veiled attack, and love the new Danny they’ve found.

Likewise, his fans on LinkedIn have also commented on the post and appreciated the “digs” on McLaren.

One user says, “Subtle dig 😏”.

Another user says, “Note that subtle salient comment on support Dan”.

ZING!”.

Danny’s future remains up in the air at the moment. He doesn’t have teams lining up for his signature given his poor form. He has reportedly refused roles as a reserve driver. As per Brown, he also rejected a role on McLaren’s IndyCar team.
