Nikita Mazepin has had a dreadful start to his rookie season in the pinnacle of motor racing. The young Russian was involved in numerous controversies on and off the track. Since the start of the season, Mazepin has struggled to maneuver his VF-21 and engaged in many crashes, and spun frequently.

In addition, the Haas driver has annoyed almost all the drivers on the grid by acting as a roadblock. Meanwhile, during the Free Practice session at the Zandvoort circuit, it was Nikita Mazepin at the receiving end.

During Free Practice 2 at the Dutch Grand Prix, Mazepin was on his flying lap to improve his previous lap time. Although soon after his lap was interrupted after the hometown hero, Max Verstappen, impeded the Russian driver.

Nikita Mazepin was understandably annoyed by Verstappen’s move and reports on his radio: “That was not cool, man.”

“You have to do it sometimes”: Nikita Mazepin after spinning in FP2

Dutch Grand Prix returns to the racing calendar after 36 long years and had an eventful first day as the red flags were brought out on three occasions across the FP1 and FP2.

Sebastian Vettel brought out the first red flag in FP1 after the German suffered a suspected “engine failure”, while the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton’s FP2 ended early after he reported a power loss. And Nikita Mazepin brought out the third red flag after he lost the rear of his car and ended up in the gravel.

“Overall, it was quite a challenging day. I was happy with the car in FP1, then we made some changes that didn’t quite do what we expected,” said Nikita Mazepin.

“I beefed it, but I think that you have to do it sometimes. It’s been a while since I made an excursion with some gravel. So now I know what the Dutch gravel feels like. Loads learned and looking forward to getting out there in FP3.”
